Homeless people, Stereotypes and Misconceptions

Homeless people, Stereotypes and Misconceptions

Society has a misconception of homeless people; society has bought in to the stereotypes that have

been influenced by news media, movies posters and actors that portray homeless people. These

stereo types are wrong and hurt those that need help.

Society may be incorrectly influenced by stereo types in believing that these people do not need our

help, more so they do not deserve our help, any help, they got into it they can find their way out.

These are some of the misconceptions that the homeless have to battle due to stereotypes.

Stereotypes

They all are criminals

They are all drug addicts and alcoholics

They are all too lazy to work

Misconception:

They all are mentally ill

It’s always there bad choices

Its freedom and a life of leisure

Those kids are all runaways

The majority of homeless teens and young adults have either been kicked out or abandoned

by their parents or guardians. Those who actually do leave home voluntarily are usually fleeing

domestic violence, abuse, dangerous criminal activity, or drug-related activity.
