PART 1

The song that i chose for my social issue is call SAY MY NAME ANTI BULLYING SONG by The Glenn Marias band. The song is about standing up to people, have your name be said and not be label  for what they think you are. To not let those names control your life. To be seen as the person in front of them. In the lyrics "look at me and say my name" are very powerful because he is referring to i am a person i have a name and its not the name you are labeling me. This song applies to my social issue, because as a bully victim, i went through a similar thing were i was having names called at me and whenever i saw myself in the mirror all i saw in the mirror were those names. Bully's think its okay to label people, to have "special" names for them. To have them lose their person, their face and just see the names they are being label. But in actuality its not, those names take away from a person so much more than they think. We were given a name for a reason. Just because we there are smart people they shouldn't be label as geeks, or if someone dresses different doesn't make them freaks, it makes them unique and individuals.

The art piece that I chose i found it on google search images, I'm not sure who did it or whats it called. But for now lets call it STOP BULLYING. This piece represents a girl who the top half of her body is naked, with her arms crossed over her chest, her body, arms, and face are cover with hurtful words, and a big piece of what might be tape over her mouth and in bold capital letters STOP BULLYING. It represents all the words that a person can be called or what a person can call someone. Its a very powerful black and white painting.

PART 2

In The "Glenn Marias Band" Glenn Maras is the lead singer. He is an artist who uses his music to speak out against injustice and inequality using a powerful thing and way. His voice and through music. He is a singer/song writer "whose words offer hope and strength in times of despair and  uncertainty."

I'm not sure if he himself experience bullying but i know that he uses his voice to make a difference, to get a message across. He is  "the voice of the people, a voice for change". He gives the voice to people who can not speak up or stand up for themselves. He gets the issues and turns them into songs. For example his anti-bullying song SAY MY NAME.

I think the song was written by Glenn for the campaign SAY MY NAME CANADA with a music video that involve staff and students from Huron Heights S.S. The song is a very powerful song, it makes think of the times you call someone a name even if was just joking around, those names can be very powerful and do so much more than you think.
