Proposal: offer housing, transportation and financial assistance in order to assist terminally ill patients who wish to die with dignity the means to do so.
Breakdown: Most people who are terminally ill are unable to afford relocating their lives to one of the five states where assisted suicide is legal. In order to qualify for assisted suicide you must be a resident of the state which means completely uprooting your life and living somewhere for typically a year before you are eligible. Many people whom are terminally ill are already in a large amount of debt due to their medical bills, hospice nurse fees etc and cannot fathom being able to relocate to qualify for death with dignity. This organization called Dignity will help fund the relocation and expenses of terminally ill patients in order to be able to participate in assisted suicide. Not only will this organization help fund this they will also campaign and raise awareness in hopes that other states will soon legalize assisted suicide. People deserve to be remembered by their families as alive and full of life rather than dying on a hospital bed. Also, patients deserve to not suffer for extended periods of time due to their illnesses as well.
Budget:
Houses in various states where assisted suicide is available so that patients and family members can establish residency
Counseling offered to patient and their families so that they may come to terms with their decision
Hospice nurses that make sure their patients are comfortable until they decide they can longer endure the pain
Medication expenses so that patients can die in the most humane way
